Geographical Location: Eastern Europe. Latitude: 53.9167-degree North. Longitude: 27.5500-degree East.

Neighbouring Countries: Belarus is a landlocked country, bordered by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to the South, Poland to the west and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest.

Area: 207 600 Sq. Kms.

Population: 9.15 million (2024 est.)

Major cities/towns: Minsk, Brest, Grodno, Gomel, Mogilev and Vitebsk. Over 42% of Belarus is covered by forest. Three major rivers run through the country: the Nioman, the Pripiat and the Dnieper. In addition, there are over 11 000 lakes and streams in Belarus.

Political Structure: Belarus is a Presidential Republic. Under the Constitution in force since February 2022, the President is the Executive Head of the State and the guarantor of the Constitution. President Aleksandr Lukashenko was re-elected for the seventh term in January 2025. The President nominates the Prime Minister and the Parliament approves or rejects the nomination. The bicameral National Assembly (Parliament consists of 110 members’ House of representatives (Lower House) and 64 Members’ Council of the Republic (Upper House).
