Government of India has amended OCI rules and decided to dispense with the requirement of re-issuance of the OCI card on obtaining a new passport after attaining the age of 20 years. However, such OCI card holders shall be required to update their passport particulars on the online system under OCI miscellaneous services(
https://ociservices.gov.in/onlineOCI/#) and also give their biometric information to the Indian Mission/Post of FRRO concerned at the time of updating of the details of the online system or at the time of first entry or departure, as the case may be, after such updating of the details.
Electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) card registration launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs
a) Electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) card has been launched on 30.06.2026 for the new applicants and existing OCI card holders (physical booklets).
b) The new e-OCI card incorporates enhanced security features and has been integrated with all the Integrated Check Posts.
c) The holder of e-OCI card will need not carry the physical copy of the OCI card at the time of Immigration Clearance and for availing other services.
d) The e-OCI card can be downloaded by login into OCI portal (https://ociservices.gov.in) and through the official ‘Indian Visa Su-Swagatam” mobile app.
e) The physical booklets shall continue to remain valid and shall be accepted for immigration and other associated services.
