Political Structure: Belarus is a Presidential Republic.  Under the Constitution adopted on 15 March 1994 (with amendments and additions made following the national referendums on 24 November 1996, 17 October 2004 and 27 February 2022), President is the Executive Head of the State and the guarantor of the Constitution. President Aleksandr Lukashenko was re-elected for the sixth term in August 2020.  The President nominates the Prime Minister and the Parliament approves or rejects the nomination.  The bicameral National Assembly (Parliament) consists of 110 Members’ House of Representatives (Lower House) and 64 Members’ Council of the Republic (Upper House).
